Grant Application Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in the Bi-Lo Holdings Foundation.  Below you will find the information necessary to submit a grant proposal to the Bi-Lo Holdings Foundation (the "Foundation").   Please read  all information carefully.

 

The mission of the Bi-Lo Holdings Foundation is to help launch or facilitate sustainable programs that alleviate hunger directly or enhance hunger-related education or health initiatives.  In addition, the foundation provides immediate assistance to communities in our footprint that may suffer from the effects of natural disasters.

 

Application Deadline: due by 11:59 pm EST June 30, 2014 (for grants to be disbursed by November 2014).  Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. All applications must be submitted online - we do not accept mailed, emailed, faxed or hand delivered submissions - and all fields must be properly completed for consideration.

 

Foundation Grant Making Principles

  • The Foundation, a private foundation, is organized and operated for charitable, scientific and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and consistent with such purposes conducts, operates and carries on activities in furtherance of the well-being, comfort, relief of distress and suffering of people in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.  The Foundation awards grants to local non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations in those states consistent therewith.
  • The Foundation's primary focus is to help launch or facilitate sustainable programs that alleviate hunger directly or enhance hunger-related education or health initiatives.  In addition, the foundation provides immediate assistance to communities in our footprint that may suffer from the effects of natural disasters.
  • In making grant decisions, the Foundation seeks to support programs and initiatives that foster significant value which lasts beyond the funding period.
  • The Foundation will not fund grants that exceed $25,000 and may award and alternate amount than requested.
  • The Foundation will not consider requests for multi-year commitments, capital campaigns or general operating support.
  • The Foundation may fund projects of its own creation.

 

Foundation Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated on the basis of:

  • The alignment of proposed beneficiary's use with the Foundation's tax exempt purposes and principles.
  • How the program will be implemented and evaluated, including the procedures utilized to track and objectively measure process and outcome goals.

 

Limitations

  • The Bi-Lo Holdings Foundation does not provide grants to:
    • Organizations for use outside the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee
    • Sponsor events
    • Individuals
    • Religious organizations for sectarian religious purposes

 

Requirements

Please consider the requirements listed below prior to submitting a proposal:

  • Organizations that have been denied funding by the Foundation may reapply for funding the following year.
  • Organizations that are currently being funded may apply for continuation of the program being funded.  If your organization is a current grantee and chooses to re-apply for your currently funded program, a one page progress report must be submitted as part of your new grant proposal.
  • Organizations must also provide IRS Form W-9 and a copy of your most recent IRS Form 990, Schedule A.
  • Follow-up reporting will be required for all funded proposals on the use of funds, program impact, and what the organization learned.
  • A site visit may be required for grant consideration.
